The Kite Runner - Movie Review

Amir and Hassan live in Kabul in the 70ies. They are best friends and spend most of their time with kiting. Even thoug they have different social backgrounds they are very close.
But Amir’s father, Baba, is not proud of his son because he is different. Amir wants his father to be proud of him and he would do anything to achieve that.

The two main characters of the story are Amir, a well-to-do Afghan boy, and Hassan, a Hazara and childhood friend of Amir. Actually Hassan is the Baba’s son, but he’s brought up by Ali, the servant of Baba. Hassan died without ever knowing about this fact. In the movie they are played by the actors Zekiria Ebrahimi and Ahamad Khan Mahmoodzada.
Another important person is Assef. He destroyed the friendship between them by rapeing Hassan. He is a sadistic bisexual teenageboy, a Nazi sympathizer and he hates Hazaras. Many years later, he becomes a Taliban-executioner and pedophile. (In the movie played by Elham Ehsas)
Rahim Khan is Baba's business partner, best friend and also a very good friend of Amir in Afghanistan. Later he will be the one telling Amir about Hassan's real father. He dies peacefully knowing he has made Amir the man Baba wanted him to be.

The story of Hosseini is a drama about the strength of forgiveness and tolerance which is also shown by the version of Forster. The story in the movie is indeed simpler, but in no case heartless narrated. It’s a very sensetive and absorbing story!
I was positively surprised because I was expecting a boring movie. But it wasn’t.
I especially liked the kite fights because they are very realistic. Otherwise the movie shows well how people live there, what priorities they have and how the country look like.

Toller Film! Spannend bis ans Ende, coole Sprüche und gute Schauspieler. Zu empfehlen!
